Good evening everyone,
It's been almost a week since my last post and 2 weeks since Kim underwent surgery. All in all, things have been going great! It's simply incredible to see her up and moving around so soon! On Saturday morning she even snuck out of the house early and went for a 2 mile walk!! I could have strangled her for that one but there was no need since her body paid her back a little later. It was definitely too much too soon!
Although her progress has been phenomenal, we noticed that fluid was once again building up on her left side on Sunday. There didn't seem to be any infection but we were just concerned that her body wasn't able to absorb the excess fluid it was producing. I called the emergency room and they told me to bring her to the ER on Monday morning. When we got up, Allie wasn't feeling well so Kim's Mom, Bev came over to watch her while I took Kim to the hospital. Thanks Mom!
After we arrived, they took Kim's vitals and her blood pressure was the highest it has been (184/111). They pulled blood to check for possible markers for infection and we saw a doctor a little later. After the examination, the doctor felt Kim was healing nicely and wasn't terribly concerned about the buildup of fluid. In addition, her blood work was good. In regards to her blood pressure, they believe that it is linked to her pain and want us to follow-up with her primary care physician down the road. We have an appointment to see her plastic surgeon this Friday and look forward to getting his comments (He's been on vacation for the last 2 weeks...I'm quite sure he deserves it!).
Please pray for her body to process the excess fluid and to be healthy enough to fight off any potential infections. We've had some stuffy noses and coughs in our home and we are all in close contact with her. Right now she seems super healthy but coughing for her would not be fun!
We continue to be encouraged by your prayers, emails and messages, as well as the yummy meals, especially brownies!...ooops, did I just say that out loud?!? :0)
God bless!
Stacy
